How To Enhance Search Results With Page Thumbnail Images

Google may automatically fetch an image from a page on your site and display it as a thumbnail image next to the page title and description in search results. Having relevant thumbnail images appear in search results helps give the user a visual aid to preview and summarize the content of the page.

It's important to note that Google will display a thumbnail image in search results at their discretion so there is actually no way to force or guarantee that they will fetch and display the image of your choosing, however, here are some best practices to follow to help improve the likelihood that they will:

  1. Insert high resolution images (2,000 x 2,000 pixels or higher) which are relevant to the content of the page and of good aesthetic and professional quality.
  2. Modify the image settings to add Alt and Title tags to your images. Adding descriptive titles and keywords to your image settings provides context when search engines analyze images in conjunction with the text on the site (see Adding ALT and Title Tags To Your Images)
