Adding An SPF Record

An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is a DNS text record that specifies which mail servers are authorized to send emails on behalf of a domain. It helps prevent email spoofing by allowing receiving servers to verify that an email comes from an approved source. The record lists IP addresses, mail servers, or domains permitted to send emails, typically formatted like:

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

Adding an SPF record is done by editing your DNS. You can learn more about how to edit DNS here.

SPF records are TXT (text records). To add an SPF record to your DNS using WebStarts follow these steps.

  1. Login to your WebStarts account and select Domains from the dropdown menu in the top right.
  2. Click on the overflow menu to the right of the domain and select DNS Records.
  3. Click the Add Record button and select TXT as the record type from the dropdown menu.
  4. Enter the SPF value v=spf1 include:_spf.hostedemail.com ~all if you're using WebStarts email or the appropriate SPF value if using another provider and click the save button.

Note: If you are using another email provider like Gmail you must contact them to obtain the correct SPF value.
