Are you having trouble getting the editor to load?

If you ever have trouble getting the WebStarts website editor to load, there are a few things you should look for on your end that could be causing the issue...

  1. The first thing you will want to do is make sure you are connected to the internet. This may sound obvious, but if for some reason your internet connection has gone down, the editor won't load as it is a web based application. Try visiting other websites in the same browser and make sure they each resolve without any issue.
  2.  The next thing you'll want to try is a simple page refresh. As stated before, WebStarts is a web based app so any issues with the Network, be it from something as simple as your own router to something on a larger scale as it connects to our servers in San Francisco, could potentially allow the editor to hang for a bit. Refreshing the page will reset that connection and could quickly resolve the issues related to the editor loading.
  3. Another thing to keep in mind is the health of the web browser you are using and whether it has been updated or is simply bogged down with Plugins, Tool Bars, etc. About the quickest way to eliminate your browser as a suspect for your trouble is by trying another one. We recommend the use of Google Chrome when editing your site as it tends to run better and more efficiently than most. If you do not have another browser on your computer already, no worries. They are free and easy to come by, so give another browser a shot and see if that clears things up for you...

    1. Download Chrome Here: https://www.google.com/chrome/
    2. Download Firefox Here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
  4. Are you using Internet Explorer on a Windows machine? While Microsoft puts out a great operating system and browser, one thing they could improve upon is how they manage updates to each one. If you are on anything other than Windows 10 and Internet Explorer 11, chances are you could use an update. Try updating Internet Explorer to the most recent version or simply switching to Chrome as your primary web browser. Not only will you have an easier time with WebStarts if you do, your entire internet experience as a whole will likely improve.

  5. If you haven't cleared your browser's cache in a while, now would be a good time to do so. Web browsers can get gummed up with all sorts of images, scripts, sessions and more, and sometimes simply clearing the cache and giving the browser a fresh go at the editor is all you need. If you have any questions about how to clear cache, take a look at this:  http://help.webstarts.com/search?collectionId=52838ba7e4b05761713b6a7e&query=cache

  6. Do you have any sort of Firewall or Virus protection installed on your computer? If so, you may have inadvertently blocked part or all of WebStarts.com from accessing your network or computer. Try turning off your Firewall and/or Virus Protection for a moment and see if that improves things for you or look for a block of some kind related to WebStarts. A good Firewall or Virus Protection software is important to ensure your computer is protected, but understanding how to properly manage that software is just as important.

If you have tried all of the above and are still unable to get the page to load, it could be something that was added to the page. Contact Us and let us know that you have gone through the above steps without success and be sure to mention any recent changes you may have made, any new code you have added, etc. The more info we have the better.
