About SSL Certificates

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) are important technologies that help secure websites and protect user data. When you create a website with Webstarts, it's essential to understand SSL and HTTPS and how they can benefit your website and its visitors.

HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol used to transfer data between a website and a user's web browser. When a website uses HTTPS, all communication between the website and the user's browser is encrypted and secured. This makes it much more difficult for hackers or malicious actors to intercept and steal sensitive data, such as passwords or credit card numbers.

SSL is the technology used to establish a secure connection between a website and a user's browser. SSL works by encrypting the data transmitted between the two endpoints, making it virtually impossible for anyone to intercept or decipher the data.

When you create a website with Webstarts, you can enable HTTPS for your site using a free SSL certificate. This will encrypt all communication between your website and your visitors' browsers, providing a secure browsing experience for your visitors. Enabling HTTPS can also boost your site's search engine ranking, as Google and other search engines prioritize sites that use HTTPS over those that don't.

To enable HTTPS for your Webstarts site, you'll need to log in to your account and navigate to the dashboard view and click the Secure Now item under the "Lets setup your site" checklist (or hover over the site image and click the Settings icon, then click Secure Now next to "SSL Certificate"), then click Secure Your Site Now to purchase our SSL and automatically install our SSL certificate in 15 minutes. Please note, WebStarts doesn't currently support third-party SSL certificates.
